History

Wix CMS was developed in 2006 and was done by Israeli developers Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami, and Giora Kaplan. The company had an open beta in 2007 with a platform based on Adobe, then by 2010 had 3.5 million users.

Requirements

Requirements to use Wix is that users must be over 13 years of legal age in your jurisdiction, 16 if you are within the European Union. All legal requirements to use these features may vary on geographical location and the laws applicable to owner and the user.

Hosted/Self-hosted

Wix is not a self-hosted site, it is a combination of its own servers such as Amazon hosting Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Hosting to provide multiple cloud hosting’s for websites. Wix also uses a global content delivery network (CDN) of secure servers around the planet to host websites.

Cost

Wix has 4 subscription plans, first being “Light” which $17 per month, “Core” which is $29 per month, “Business” for $36 per month, then “Business Elite”. The ability to do more things are granted the higher the payment plans go.

User Base

As of August 2024, Wix is a popular website builder that used by 4.2% of all websites online. 46% of the market by the number of websites, which is much higher than other website builders.
